5 Tricks to Healthier Eating

Swap Noodles For Low Calories Alternatives

We often crave a big bowl of pasta, but it's really the sauce we want so we find it just as delicious and satisfying to swap real pasta noodles (which tend to be very caloric and super filling leaving you feeling bloated and heavy) with some healthy alternatives. Mainly we use zucchini noodles (zoodles) or konjac noodles.  You can find Konjac noodles at a speciality asian cuisine store or at some grocery stores.  Konjac noodles are 50 calories per serving, no carbs, no fat and high in fiber.  A medium zucchini has 33 calories, 0 grams of fat and 2 grams fiber. Easiest decisions EVER! Our favorite zoodles recipe is here.

Use Almond Milk

Sounds obvious, but if you are a big milk drinker (coffee, cereal, smoothies), an easy way for you to cut calories would be to switch to a non-dairy alternative like unsweetened almond milk.  We tend to use this in our smoothies and it's great. It takes some getting used to with coffee, but diary is an inflammatory and not great for our overall health so it's worth it!

Opt for 'Healthier' Sweets

If you are really craving something sweet for dessert try having some dark chocolate (Lindtt is our favorite in the salted caramel flavor).  You will likely be surprised how satisfying this is! Otherwise, there are so many low calorie ice creams and frozen yoghurts!

Cauliflower is Your Friend

Cauliflower is so versatile and we have found it to be great for so many healthy alternative recipes.  We always make cauliflower fried rice and we've even made general tao 'chicken' and cauliflower steak with it! Other ways to use it include making a pizza crust.

Toast free breakfast

We absolutely love toast, but it's nice to have some healthy nourishing breakfast options that don't include bread.  We find the best way to go about this is to pre-make a chia seed pudding.  It's so fast and easy and you just put it in the fridge the night before. See our recipe here. In the morning we just top it with fresh fruits and a scoop of almond butter or peanut butter.  This breakfast will give you energy to last for hours!
